NHS Social Research and Marketing

Since the 2004 White Paper ‘Choosing Health’ social marketing has become an important tool for the NHS in recent years to quantify and influence people to lead healthier lifestyles.

Though the term was originally coined in 1971 by Kotler and Zaltman, today with readily available socio-demographic profiling at our finger tips and the use of focus groups, influencing high risk, difficult to reach groups is now possible with a high degree of certainty.

Reach has been involved in a number of social marketing projects working with its partner Social Research Associates.

A typical project which started in late 2008 for North East Lincolnshire Care Trust is investigating the use of contraception in the region.

Its objective is to create a marketing strategy to reduce the high proportion of terminated pregnancies and to also educate high risk groups on sexually transmitted diseases.

Our experience and expertise in social research and marketing provides those clients working in social welfare and on public sector projects a valuable insight for planning strategic marketing.
