BJA - Volunteering
The importance of volunteers cannot be underestimated in sport. In the UK alone, there are over one and a half million sporting volunteers. Sport at a community level is heavily dependent on people to fill a wide range of roles. Besides coaching, fundraising, marketing, administration, maintenance and catering positions need to be filled. Clubs and associations need to have volunteer policies to enable the training and retention of these essential helpers.
Over the past few years BJA have developed their volunteer programme and now hold an annual volunteer awards ceremony to recognise the time and effort put in by clubs and individuals.
We have been involved with the production of materials to support volunteers in judo. This has included leaflets to attract new volunteers, a CD of volunteer resources and a tutor pack to enable the volunteer referees and judges to be trained to the highest standard.
