BJA - Child Protection

In 2001 the Child Protection in Sport Unit was set up as a partnership between UK Sport and the NSPCC. All sports are required to consider child protection issues including CRB checks for all staff and volunteers, alongside the production of child protection information and training. Each club is required to appoint a child protection officer and they must undergo training to understand complex laws and guidelines. They then need apply these laws in relation to such issues as photography at events and procedures during overnight stays.

BJA’s Child Protection manager came to us with an idea for a board game to help simplify the information she was presenting at training sessions. From an initial sketch she provided, we designed, illustrated and produced the final board game.

The game was a great success and is fully supported by the NSPCC. It is now for sale to other bodies working with young people. Other sport governing bodies which have adopted the game for their child protection training includes the English Cricket Board, Rugby Football League and Badminton England.
