EFDSS has new portal for promoting folk
Reach Marketing, the Leicester based creative agency has launched a new look web site through its web company Reach Digital for the English Folk Dance and Song Society (www.EFDSS.org).
The Society’s aims are "to promote, preserve and develop folk arts in England and more widely". Folk arts include Morris Dancing, Folk songs like Sea Shanty, Maypole Dancing, Clog Dancing, Rapper Dancing and many more. The Society is committed to placing the indigenous folk arts of England at the heart of our cultural life. The website is designed to allow people to find out more and about how they can get involved.
The brief to Reach was to create a ‘portal’ for promoting folk arts in all its forms.
There is an on-line archive building on the Vaughan Williams library cataloguing a century of recordings and sheet music and lyrics, most people will find links to songs they remember as children.
The site has been optimised to act as an education resource as well as being a guide to the folk scene in the regions throughout the UK. The site employs many social networking techniques such as Facebook and blog, and has been designed to be well indexed by search engines so making it easy to find. "We’ve made it easy to update so content on the site will be continually updated by the Society" said Gary Love, Director of Reach Marketing. "This means that the search engines like Google will rank the site higher and help the Society to meet their main objective of promoting and preserving Folk Arts".
"This is one of the biggest sites we have ever produced in terms of the sheer volume of data, we have been involved in creating a historic archive and made it available to everyone, we’re very proud of our involvement" said Lucy Garrigan, web team manager at Reach Digital. "We took a very structured approach; we had to take a great deal of care in managing all that information. The site has taken nearly 6 months to build; we followed a critical path with regular milestones and reviews over the planning and build period. It has been a labour of love".
The next stage of the site will allow locally based folk groups to upload their information in a structured way that is attractive to look at and easy to use.
The team at Reach are specialists in Arts Marketing and already work for a number of arts organisations including The Stables, Leicester Comedy Festival, De Montfort Hall, BFI, Foundation for Community Dance, Summer Sundae Weekender and most recently the new Headstock Festival.
Nick Hallam, Marketing Director of EFDSS said, "We are so pleased with the web-site. The team at Reach have worked tirelessly to meet our deadlines and exceeded our expectations. It was a tough brief, which they won in competition against other agencies and we are so pleased to have been working with them. I believe this is the beginning of a long partnership and we look forward to developing the success and bringing Folk Art to the wider public".
Reach Marketing Communications was established in May of 1995 by Directors Gary Love and Asgoo Pirbhai. Reach is a Leicester based company employing 18 people. Its work in the Arts sector is highly regarded as is its work in property, in Sports Development and in the Health sector.
